What is StoriesDown
StoriesDown is an Instagram story viewer for public profiles. You paste a username and it pulls up whatever that account posted in the last 24 hours, along with their highlights, reels, and profile picture. Everything happens in the browser — there is nothing to install and no extension to add.
The thing that makes it useful is that it is anonymous. Because nothing routes through an account of your own, your name never lands in the "seen by" list and the owner gets no notification that someone looked. It stays free to use, with no cap on how many profiles you can open.
Why we built it
Opening the Instagram app to glance at one story means logging in, getting pulled into the feed, and leaving a footprint on every story you tap. We wanted the opposite: a single box where you paste a handle, see what is there, save it if you want, and close the tab. No login screen, no algorithm, no awkward trace the next morning.
It started as a tool we used ourselves to check competitor accounts and archive things before they vanished. It turned out plenty of other people — researchers, writers, marketers — wanted the same simple, quiet way to look.
How it works
There is no setup. The whole flow takes about ten seconds:
- Copy the @handle of any public profile you want to look at.
- Paste it into the search box at the top of the home page.
- Watch the current stories load in order, then tap any one to save the original photo or video to your device.
If a profile comes back empty, it is almost always because the account is private — StoriesDown can only read content that is already public on Instagram.
Our principles
- Anonymous by default. There is no other mode. You never log in and we never ask for a password.
- No data hoarding. We do not store the profiles you look up and we never post anything on your behalf.
- Free and open access. Public content stays public. The tool is free, with no trial and no paywall a few clicks in.
- Independent. StoriesDown is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc.
